WHY TO LOVE DUAL LIFE
You probably know by now that at Guardian we’re big lovers of the dual life approach. In fact, we’re so committed to it that we don’t offer the option of joint life.
There are lots of reasons why we think dual life’s a better way to cover couples. Here are some of them:
What to think about | Why to choose two single life policies |
The relationship might |
Each partner has their own separate cover, which means they keep their cover if their relationship ends. Which addresses foreseeable harm. |
Your client’s eligibility |
Both clients have their own cover. So in the event of a claim, the surviving partner doesn’t need to worry about trying to replace their cover now they’re older and perhaps less healthy. |
You double the payout |
Great for those interested in maintaining their lifestyle after a claim (rather than paying off the mortgage). |
Children remain protected after a claim |
With a joint life policy, after a parent claims, the cover ends, leaving their children with no protection in place.
With our dual life approach, the children’s cover remains in place. |
You’re future proofing the |
GP24/7 and HALO will remain in place for the family even if a claim is made on one partner’s policy. |
Separate online accounts and policy documents |
Both partners have their own MyGuardian accounts and policy documents. |
A case study
Meet Sarah and Andy. They’re both aged 32 with a mortgage on their first home. They’re looking for £125,000 of Combined Life and Critical Illness Protection.
With our dual life approach:
- If a full claim is made by one, the other’s policy is unaffected and stays in place – this also applies to the added-value services.
- If a full claim is made by both Andy and Sarah, they’ll each recieve their own payout, totalling £250,000.
- If they separate or divorce, both their policies remain in place with no changes required – potentially saving them a lot of money when they’re older and may have new health conditions.
- They have the option to add Children’s Critical Illness Protection to either partner’s cover if they decide to have children in the future.
